Healthy Alternative to Sugar Cookie Decorating
Decorating sugar cookies for the holidays is always fun– but not if you are a parent who has little ones who bounce off of the walls after doing so! Try this alternative to the traditional holiday activity that is sure to bring about just as many smiles! Note: Because of the nature of fresh fruit, these are a “make and eat in the same day” project– don’t save them for too long!
What you’ll need:
Graham Crackers
Jello Pudding (and flavor, but vanilla works well)
Fresh fruits of your choice and/or dried fruits of your choice
Butter knife
The idea is really pretty simple- your cracker is your “cookie” and the pudding is the “icing.” Use the butter knife to spread the Jello pudding onto the cracker then decorate as desired with your fresh and dried fruit.
With my little ones I used sugar free Jello and a mixture of fresh and dried fruits. We used blueberries for eyes, raspberries for hair, a handfull of raisins for a smile, and halved dried apricots for ears. We had a lot of fun decorating them, and I never once minded them snacking on the decorations!
This can also work as a fun and special after school snack.
Enjoy and happy holidays!
