Know Your Character: ROBOTS
Robots was first released in March of 2005 as an animated film by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox. The movie is set in a robot world and follows the life of a young robot named Rodney Copperbottom (voiced by Ewan McGregor). Rodney wants to help the great robot, Bigweld, a man he’s admired since he was a little robot, because of his kindness and innovative inventions.
When he arrives in the big city and goes to meet Bigweld to show him his inventions, he learns that Bigweld has retired and his replacement, Ratchet (voiced by Greg Kinnear), is more intent on making money than on helping the robots. Ratchet refuses to make new replacement parts for the older robots. Instead, he insists that everyone must upgrade to very expensive models and those that aren’t able to pay are turned into scrap metal instead. To prevent this, Rodney, with the help of Fender (voiced by Robin Williams) and Piper, begins to construct spare parts to keep everyone out of scrap heap.
