Know Your Character: TWEETY
Tweety ’s full name is either Tweety Pie or Tweety Bird. He is a baby canary that originally starred in Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons produced by Warner Bros. Tweety first appeared in a cartoon short called “A Tale of Two Kitties” in 1942. He also appeared in a scene of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
Contrary to popular belief, Tweety has always been male. His continual arch-nemesis is Sylvester the cat, who first appeared opposite Tweety in 1947 in a short called “Tweety Pie.”
Tweety is one of the most popular Warner Bros. characters that has ever been produced. While he is small and seems to be very sweet, he always outsmarts his opponent, either Sylvester or any other cat that may be after him.
Trivia : Before its release in 1942, Tweety’s original name was “Orson.”
His signature line is “I tawt I taw a putty tat!”
The character was originally a light pink color and was later changed to yellow.
Tweety was the first Warner Bros. cartoon to win an Oscar.
Tweety was voiced by Mel Blanc in the beginning of his career. Mel Blanc was also the first voice of the Tasmanian Devil, another popular Warner Bros. character.
