Just incase you don’t know what this means, it is a fake bid that a seller places on his/her item to boost up the price. We would be looking at how this really works out, the impacts and effects and whether it is fair enough even for the seller.
Let’s spot what you should take notice of with shill auctions, the seller will normally have more than one active ebay accounts sometimes even with feedbacks. But that which is easily spot and most common is that of zero (0) feedbacks or less than 5. You will notice this in anction that has many bids which are full of these zero bidders or less than 5. A further helpful check is to look at these bidders profile because sometimes some are genuine but if the profile says less than 30 days ebay member with low bidding activity since the last 30 days, then you should be getting suspicious.
The effect is that when you place a bid you will either be outbid automatically or few minutes later. The seller will normally remove it’s high bid at the last seconds when the price has risen to the price that they are fully satisfied. you will continually be outbid until it reaches this point.
Sometimes it get in thier own way and they win the bid by themselves and face the listing fees and the high final value fee. Some clever seller will send you a second chance offer and tell you that thier high bidder pull out at the last minute. Beware of this as I have recieved similar reasons couple of times, you need only accept the second chance offer if the item is worth the price through your research.
Most people get carried away at the ego of winning an auction but it’s not always fair. As a seller you need to realise that the lower your price the higher attraction it gets so if you keep increasing the price through shill bids you are only at the risk of not buying your own item.
